LEWCO Manufactures heavy-duty 24 Volt DC Chain Conveyor
System for ASRS system.
Recently, LEWCO, Inc. designed and manufactured a
dual level conveyor system handling fire nozzle assembly components for
Task Force Tips in Valparaiso, IN. TFT is a
worldwide leader in providing first responders with high quality, innovative,
extinguishing agent delivery solutions. Ever since the invention of the fire
pump, firefighters have been plagued with the difficulty of obtaining correct
nozzle pressures for nozzles. Based on a simple and reliable design created by
TFT’s founder, Mr. Clyde McMillan, Task Force Tip solved this dilemma with the
automatic nozzle, which constantly adjusts to varying pressures in the hose
lines.

The folks at TFT approached LEWCO for a conveyor
system to complement their Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). The
purpose of the ASRS was to assist the operators in retrieving parts for the
various nozzle assemblies in TFT’s product line. Assisted by a user-friendly
control system, TFT’s metal trays were “released” for component loading, and
“returned” for operator removal and assembly.
"After communicating our needs to several
vendors, LEWCO returned with the most affordable and reliable solutions.
They tested our product on various conveyors and found a unique way to
deliver that product from the ASRS to our operator. Their response time and
delivery dates enabled us to meet our project deadlines."

TFT’s new dual level conveyor system utilized LEWCO’s MSCC Chain Conveyor with
Pop-Up Chain Transfers and Vertical Reciprocating Conveyors. The core of the
conveyor system consisted of LEWCO’s new, state of the art,
24-volt DC conveyor technology. The
“green” 24-volt DC technology operates only when the product to be conveyed
require movement, resulting in a 93% energy savings over conventional belt
driven live roller conveyors. Furthermore, LEWCO was able to capitalize on its
ability to provide the industry’s only 24 volt DC conveyor design for loads up
to 300 lbs. The motor is mounted outside of the conveyor frame, which allows for
larger motors with higher torque ratings, resulting in greater load capacities.
Internal motors used in traditional motorized roller conveyors have horsepower
limitations. Finally, by mounting the motor outside of the conveyor frame, heat
dissipation is greatly improved, thus increasing the life of the motor.
